AIHS Christmas Cards
These beautiful and unique greeting cards are designed by Jen Whelan, in Dublin. The house in the snow globe is inspired by the house that James Joyce’s aunts lived in at Usher’s Quay in Dublin City Centre. This house is believed to be the setting for Joyce’s short story, The Dead.
IIn a world of increasing automation and AI, Jen loves the intricacy and folksiness of lino printing.
Every step - from designing to carving to paper preparation to printing - requires skill and patience and time, and it produces something that is clearly handmade. It feels like an antidote to an ever-faster world. And a link back to the world of Joyce and his characters, where books were written with ink on paper, and things were made by people.

These prints are printed on a small table-top press in Jen’s kitchen, and are printed on hand-torn Japanese kitakata paper. The cards are made of Fabriano Rusticus paper; the cellophane wrap is biodegradable.
