About the Archives
FamFamily Research
After many waves of immigration escaping poverty and injustice, Irish Americans have become one of the largest immigrant groups in The United States. However, difficulty with record keeping and intentional mismanagement of records to escape prejudice have resulted in many lost ties. Although our archives are still being surveyed and prepared for use, we at AIHS want to support those who are eager to reconnect to their roots. We have created this page to share resources for those interested in researching their genealogy.

How to Research
How you begin researching your family depends on how much you know. Although surnames can be useful, they are often common and may have been subject to spelling errors upon arrival to America. County of origin, any mentions of towns or places, and other specific details (occupation, religion, relative names, etc.) can clarify the process.
